A recent study has successfully validated the use of the Sysmex XN-1000V automated hematology analyzer for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), a key species in global aquaculture. The research highlights how this technology offers fast, reliable blood cell counts with high precision and consistency, especially for red blood cells and hemoglobin. Unlike traditional manual methods, which are time-consuming and variable, the automated system provides a standardized and accurate approach—marking a significant advancement in fish health monitoring. The study also established reference blood values and confirmed heparin as the most suitable anticoagulant for trout samples.
