This weekend, we had the privilege of presenting at the 2025 Assemblea General de la Federació Catalana de Caça (FCC), where we highlighted the role hunters play in biodiversity monitoring and wildlife health surveillance.
In a rapidly changing world, the contribution of hunters to ecosystem management is more important than ever. Their deep knowledge of the terrain, seasonal wildlife patterns, and population dynamics makes them indispensable allies in data collection efforts. As the first observers of changes in wild animal health, population densities, and behavioral shifts, hunters provide critical real-time information that complements scientific monitoring and enhances our capacity to respond to emerging threats in wildlife and ecosystems. By establishing shared protocols for data gathering and health assessment in hunted wildlife, we will unlock new opportunities for long-term monitoring and scientific research ensuring the sustainability and resilience of Catalonia’s natural heritage.
We thank the FCC and its members for their commitment and support to wildlife research and nature conservation.
