We’re excited to welcome Margareta (Maggie) Hjelm to the WE&H group at UAB for the 2025–2026 academic year. Maggie is currently pursuing a Master’s in Conservation Biology at Lund University, with a research focus on wildlife disease ecology and global change.

For her master’s thesis, Maggie will use a 10-year dataset to investigate how ecological factors — including climate variation and nutritional stress — influence parasitic infections in Southern Chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica). Her work aims to uncover how host–parasite dynamics are shaped by environmental change and what this means for long-term conservation.

We’re thrilled to support her research and look forward to the insights it brings.
