Our new study, published in Ecological Indicators, investigates how spectral vegetation indices (VIs) can detect physiological stress in Mediterranean shrubs exposed to deer browsing. By comparing Cistus ladanifer (non-palatable) and Phillyrea angustifolia (highly palatable) under simulated and long-term herbivory, we found that key indices like R750/R800 and NDPI effectively reflected species- and season-specific stress responses. These findings highlight the potential of remote sensing as a non-invasive tool for monitoring herbivore impacts and improving shrubland management
