Forbes House & Business of Hunting 2026: Communicating the true value of hunting to society

Hunting is at a pivotal moment in which, beyond its economic and environmental contributions, it must better communicate its value to society. This was the key message of the Forbes House Business of Hunting 2026 event, organised in early June by Forbes Spain in Madrid. Scientists, including members of our team,  business leaders, land managers, communicators, and industry representatives, gathered to discuss the future of hunting and its role in modern society. Participants highlighted the sector’s significant contribution to Spain’s economy, generating more than €10.2 billion annually and supporting nearly 200,000 jobs, most of them in rural areas, as well as its importance for biodiversity conservation, wildfire prevention, scientific research, and sustainable land management.

Speakers emphasised that hunting has deep historical roots in human evolution and continues to play a crucial role in maintaining rural communities and managing natural ecosystems. Across all discussions, a common conclusion emerged: the hunting sector must improve its communication efforts and present a more complete, evidence-based narrative that reflects its economic, social, environmental, and scientific contributions, ensuring that society better understands its relevance in the 21st century.
