Validation of the Sysmex XN-1000V automated haematology analyser for gilthead seabream

I our last work, M. Mesalles, PhD candidate, has validated a Sysmex XN-1000V automated haematology analyser in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), a key species in Mediterranean aquaculture. The results show that the analyser performs well for routine red blood cell measurements and overall haematological monitoring, but leukocyte differentials still benefit from microscopic confirmation. We also found that lithium heparin is a good anticoagulant for this species. Together, these findings support the use of automated haematology as a practical tool for fish health assessment, provided that sample handling and result interpretation are carefully managed.
