We have just published a new study in Remote Sensing on wild boar presence in Barcelona, showing that urban incursions are shaped by both seasonal vegetation dynamics and landscape structure. Remotely sensed vegetation indices helped explain when boars were more likely to appear, especially during spring and late summer, while connectivity to streams and habitat fragmentation were more important for explaining where they were found. These results suggest that managing human-wildlife conflict in cities requires combining satellite data with local landscape features to better anticipate high-risk areas.
