Acute phase proteins and total antioxidant capacity in free-roaming cats infected by pathogenic leptospires

Leptospirosis is a widespread and often silent zoonotic disease with no clear clinical presentation hampering disease diagnosis. Using a battery of oxidative and inflammatory biomarkers in free-roaming cats actively infected with Leptospira we observe that cats recently infected with Leptospira show an inflammatory profile·with high concentrations of acute proteins (Serum amyloid A  and Haptoglobin)  and low concentrations of the antioxidant PON1 enzyme.
